How does Add Pages differ from Merge PDF and Organize PDF?
Add Pages is specialized for targeted page insertion: it allows you to inject blank sheets or insert specific pages from another document at any exact position. If you simply want to combine whole documents end to end, use Merge PDF. If you only need to re-sequence existing pages within a single file without adding new content, use Organize PDF. If you need to remove pages you do not want, use Delete Pages from PDF.
Last updated
Adding pages to an existing PDF document is essential when preparing reports, legal packets, and print booklets. You might need to slip a blank page between chapters to align double-sided printing, or insert an updated financial table into the middle of a proposal. TryDocsy Add Pages provides a simple visual workspace to insert blank pages or inject sheets from another PDF document directly where you need them.
Everything happens in your browser, for files up to 100 MB, so your contracts and personal records are not uploaded. If you need to combine several complete files in order from start to finish, use Merge PDF. If you only need to rearrange or discard pages within an existing file, use Organize PDF. If you need to remove pages visually, try Delete Pages from PDF.
How it works
1. Upload your base PDF
Drag and drop your primary PDF document or click to select it from your device. The document opens in browser memory without server uploads.
2. Choose blank pages or external document
Select whether to insert a blank page with custom paper dimensions or upload a secondary PDF to copy pages from.
3. Specify insertion position and paper size
Choose where the new pages should go: at the beginning, at the end, or after a specific page number. For blank sheets, select presets like A4, Letter, or match document size.
4. Review sequence and download
Inspect the page sequence to verify the order. Click Compile & Save PDF, then download your document.
When you'd use it
Preparing documents for duplex booklet printing
Double-sided printing requires new chapters or sections to start on odd-numbered right-hand pages. Inserting a blank sheet keeps booklet layouts properly aligned.
Inserting signed signature pages into agreements
After receiving an executed signature page from a client, insert that sheet directly into the agreement packet without reconstructing the original source document.
Adding supplementary exhibit sheets
Insert supporting data tables, survey maps, or photo exhibits into the appendix of an existing engineering dossier or legal petition.
Injecting cover pages or section title dividers
Add a newly designed title page or blank separator sheet to existing compilations before distributing them to clients or board members.
How does Add Pages differ from Merge PDF and Organize PDF?
While Add Pages, Merge PDF, and Organize PDF all modify document structure, they serve fundamentally different preparation workflows. Selecting the right tool saves repetitive steps.
When you need to insert a single blank sheet at page 4 or take three specific pages from an appendix file and slot them into the middle of a brief, Add Pages is the right choice. It gives you targeted insertion control at any point in the document sequence. In contrast, Merge PDF acts as a document joiner: it takes whole files and appends them one after another in complete blocks. If you have two complete twenty-page files, Merge PDF attaches file two directly behind file one. If you only want to shift existing pages around or remove mistakes without adding new material, Organize PDF lets you rearrange the sequence of an existing document.
Using Add Pages allows you to combine blank pages and secondary document sheets in one operation. If you need to re-number the finished file after inserting pages, you can apply sequential numbering using Add Page Numbers.
What are the standard paper dimensions for blank pages?
A blank page that matches the rest of the document scrolls and prints in line with it.
You can pick from A sizes and North American sizes, in portrait or landscape. Match Document copies the size and orientation of your first page exactly, as a reader shows it, so the orientation choice is switched off for that option.
| Page size preset | Size | PDF points, portrait |
|---|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm | 595.28 × 841.89 |
| US Letter | 8.5 × 11 in | 612 × 792 |
| US Legal | 8.5 × 14 in | 612 × 1008 |
| A3 | 297 × 420 mm | 841.89 × 1190.55 |
| A5 | 148 × 210 mm | 419.53 × 595.28 |
| Match Document | Your first page | Taken from your file |
What happens to bookmarks, links, and forms when pages are added?
It depends on what you did. If you only added pages, they go into your original document. Its bookmarks, form fields, title, and page links all stay, and page links still reach the right page when pages shift.
If you also moved or removed pages, the tool builds a new document, so a removed page really leaves the file. Page links between the pages you kept still work, and a link to a removed page goes. Bookmarks and fillable fields don't come across in that case, so run Flatten PDF first to keep typed answers. Pages from a second PDF arrive without its bookmarks or fillable fields. To add clickable links afterwards, use Add Link to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I insert blank pages in the middle of a PDF?
Yes. You can insert a blank sheet at the beginning, at the very end, or after any specific page number in the document.
Can I choose between tall and wide layouts for added blank pages?
Yes. Any fixed paper size can be portrait or landscape, whatever the orientation of the original file.
How do I ensure the added page matches my existing document size?
Select the Match Document preset. The blank page takes the size and orientation of your first page.
Can I add pages from another PDF without merging the entire file?
Yes. When you choose an external PDF, you can specify individual pages or ranges to import rather than taking the entire document.
Does adding pages affect the quality of existing pages?
No. Pages are not re-rendered or compressed, so text, embedded fonts, and graphics stay as they were.
Is there a limit on file size when adding pages?
Each PDF can be up to 100 MB. Everything runs in your browser, so speed depends on your device.
