Remove Background uses the U2-Net (isnet_quint8) deep-learning model to detect the main subject in a photo and separate it from the background with clean edges and preserved fine detail. It works on people, products, animals, and complex scenes — and because the model runs in your browser via WebAssembly, no image is ever uploaded to a server.
How to remove a background from an image

How does the AI background remover work?
The tool runs the U2-Net (isnet_quint8) deep-learning model directly in your browser using WebAssembly. It detects the main subject in your image — a person, product, animal, or object — and segments it from the background with high accuracy, even on fine details like hair and fur.
What image formats are supported?
You can upload JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files up to 20 MB. Output is a transparent PNG by default; you can also export as JPG (white background) or WebP. GIF and animated WebP are decoded to a single frame.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Every step — decoding, AI inference, and encoding — runs locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device, which makes the tool safe for sensitive photos like ID documents, passports, or client work.
Why does it take time on the first use?
The AI model is about 40–50 MB and is downloaded and cached on first use. After that, background removal is nearly instant. On a slow connection, you can keep using the rest of the page while the model downloads in the background.
Can I replace the background with a solid color or gradient?
Yes. After the background is removed, choose Transparent (PNG), Solid (any color via picker or 12 presets), or Gradient (6 presets with 4 directions: left-to-right, top-to-bottom, or the two diagonals).
Can I resize the output image?
Yes. Set custom width and height in pixels, with an optional aspect-ratio lock to prevent distortion. The original full-resolution cutout is preserved separately so you can re-export at any size.
How good is the cutout quality?
The isnet_quint8 model produces excellent edges on people, animals, products, and complex scenes. Fine hair, semi-transparent edges, and intricate silhouettes are preserved well. For very busy backgrounds, you may see a faint halo — re-running the model or trimming the result will remove it.
