Rotate PDF fixes pages that open sideways or upside down, such as phone-scanned receipts, landscape tables exported into portrait reports, or scanned batches fed backwards. You pick a fixed angle (90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees, or 90 degrees counter-clockwise) and apply it to every page or selected pages, then download the corrected file. There is no freeform angle dial. Those three presets are the only rotations available, so a page tilted a few degrees off-square from an uneven scan cannot be straightened here; you need a dedicated deskewing tool for that.
Rotation updates the page orientation flag in the PDF dictionary rather than altering the content stream. It runs fast even on a 100 MB document and never re-renders text or images. Nothing is redrawn, resampled, or recompressed. The chosen angle is added on top of existing page orientation rather than replacing it outright, which matters if your file was previously rotated by a scanner. If you need to reorder pages or remove unwanted sheets after straightening them, continue to Organize PDF or Delete Pages from PDF.
How it works
1. Upload your PDF
Upload a single PDF up to 100 MB. A file requiring a password to open is rejected immediately with a message to unlock it first. A file with only owner-set print or copy restrictions loads normally.
2. Choose a rotation angle
Select 90 degrees CW, 180 degrees, or 90 degrees CCW. Each option rotates relative to the page's current orientation, so applying 90 degrees CW twice in succession results in 180 degrees.
3. Select All Pages or specific pages
All Pages applies the chosen angle across the entire document. Select Pages displays a numbered button for every page, allowing you to click only the specific sheets requiring orientation changes.
4. Rotate and download
Click Rotate All Pages (or Rotate Selected Pages in custom mode). The action button switches to Download Rotated PDF upon completion, appending -rotated to the original filename.
When you'd use it
A phone-scanned assignment or receipt
Scanner apps and camera-to-PDF conversions frequently save a page sideways depending on how the phone was held. One 90-degree pass straightens the whole batch before you submit or file it.
A landscape table or spreadsheet export
A wide spreadsheet or financial chart exported to PDF often lands as a landscape page inside an otherwise portrait document. Rotating just that page with Select Pages keeps the rest of the document untouched.
A stack of upside-down scanned pages
Feeding paper into an automatic document feeder face-down or backwards produces pages rotated a full 180 degrees. All Pages at 180 degrees corrects the entire batch in a single pass instead of rescanning.
Only the appendix needs turning
In reports where body pages read normally but annexures or engineering drawings at the end are oriented sideways, Select Pages rotates just those sheets while main text stays upright.
Why are there only three rotation angles?
The tool provides three rotation amounts: 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees, and 90 degrees counter-clockwise (which matches 270 degrees clockwise). There is no freeform slider or decimal input for arbitrary angles. A page that is slightly crooked from an uneven scan, such as tilted 3 degrees or 7 degrees off-center, will remain tilted after using this tool. It corrects page orientation in 90-degree steps, not skew.
Because rotation applies incrementally on top of a page's existing orientation, rotating an already sideways page by another 90 degrees in the same direction flips it upside down. If a page ends up rotated further than intended, apply the opposite preset (90 degrees CCW reverses 90 degrees CW) rather than assuming the tool resets the angle to zero first.
Does rotating a PDF reduce document quality?
Rotating a page in TryDocsy only updates the /Rotate key stored in the page's dictionary object. This key is a display instruction directing compliant PDF readers which way to orient the page when rendering. The underlying vector text, embedded fonts, and raster images are never re-rendered, resampled, or recompressed, meaning there is zero quality loss and no change in file size.
Because page streams are not rasterized during rotation, the tool displays a grid of page numbers rather than visual thumbnails. Once processing completes, download the file and open it in your viewer to verify the final reading orientation.

Can password-protected PDFs be rotated?
A PDF requiring a password to open cannot be processed by this tool and is rejected immediately upon selection. The interface displays a warning directing you to Unlock PDF. Remove the password using that tool first, then bring the unlocked document back here to rotate it.
In contrast, documents that only carry owner restrictions against printing or text copying load without issue because reading and updating orientation flags does not violate viewing permissions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate a PDF by an angle other than 90, 180, or 270 degrees?
No. Only those three presets are available. A page that is slightly tilted from an uneven flatbed scan will remain tilted after rotating. This tool corrects orientation in quarter turns, not skew.
Why did my page end up upside down instead of upright?
Rotation is added on top of the page's existing orientation rather than resetting it to zero first. If a page already carried 90 degrees of rotation from a scan, applying another 90 degrees flips it upside down. Apply 90 degrees CCW to reverse it.
Can I rotate only some pages and leave the rest alone?
Yes. Switch to Select Pages and click the page numbers you want rotated. Every unselected page keeps its original orientation.
Does rotating reduce image or text quality?

Can I see what the rotated page will look like before downloading?
