Add Text to Image gives you a straightforward way to overlay headlines, captions, dates, and name badges directly onto photos in your browser. Built entirely around HTML5 canvas rendering, it executes locally on your device without sending sensitive personal photos or document scans to third-party servers.
The tool supports six standard fonts (Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Georgia, Verdana, and Impact), seven preset alignment anchors, multi-line paragraph inputs, and full UTF-8 international character sets. Whether you need an exam name caption or a quick social label, everything happens in memory with real-time visual feedback.
How it works
1. Drop your photo
Select a JPEG, PNG, or WebP picture up to 20 MB. The file loads immediately into client memory without network transmission.
2. Enter text and choose typography
Type your message in the text box (press Enter for multiple lines). Select your desired font family, color, and size between 12px and 200px.
3. Configure position and background banner
Pick one of seven anchor positions. Optionally disable transparent background to add a solid color strip, either full width or hugging the text.
4. Render and download
Click Apply Text & Download to draw the typography onto the full-resolution canvas and save the finished graphic to your computer.

Typography options and layout behavior
The editor provides six system fonts rendered bold: Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Georgia, Verdana, and Impact. Text alignment supports seven positions: Top Left, Top Center, Top Right, Center, Bottom Left, Bottom Center, and Bottom Right. A soft dark drop shadow (rgba 0, 0, 0, 0.6 with blur scaled to 15% of font size) is applied automatically to ensure high contrast across varied photo backgrounds.
When the Transparent checkbox is turned off, you can set a solid background color behind your text. The Full Width checkbox controls whether this background spans the entire width of the image as a horizontal banner or shrinks to hug only the bounding box of your letters. Multi-line text breaks wherever you press Enter in the text area, maintaining uniform 1.2x line spacing.

Why does text look blurry after download?
A common point of confusion is the difference between preview display scaling and full-resolution canvas rendering. While you edit, TryDocsy scales the preview canvas to fit inside a 400px container so it remains visible on mobile and desktop screens. On a high-resolution 2048 x 1536 px image, a 24px font appears relatively large on the scaled preview, but covers only a tiny percentage of the full canvas.
When you click Apply Text & Download, the tool renders text at full 1:1 pixel dimensions on an unscaled canvas. If you selected a font size that was too small for your image's pixel dimensions, the text will appear small, and zooming in to read it will make the rasterized glyphs look soft. For large photos (above 1920px wide), choose font sizes between 48px and 96px for high clarity.
When not to use this tool: if you require curved text along an arc, rich multi-colored typography within a single sentence, or multiple independent floating text layers, use dedicated graphic design software like Canva or Figma. Output format behavior: uploaded PNGs export as PNG with alpha transparency preserved. All other input formats export as JPEG at 0.95 quality over a solid white matte, with all EXIF metadata removed. Frequently asked questions
Can I add Name and Date of Birth for government exam photos?
Yes. Set Position to Bottom Center, type your name on the first line and date on the second line, uncheck Transparent, and check Full Width. This produces a clean, solid caption banner matching SSC and UPSC exam specifications.
Does the tool support non-English scripts like Hindi or Arabic?
Yes. The browser canvas uses native UTF-8 font rendering. We tested Hindi Devanagari text ('नमस्ते भारत - ट्राईडॉक्सी 2026') at 48px, which renders complex conjuncts and matras accurately without distortion.
Why does the text wrap unexpectedly or run past the edge?
The tool does not automatically wrap text based on image width. To start a new line, press Enter in the text area. You can also lower the font size slider if a long title exceeds the canvas border.
Can I disable the text drop shadow?
No. The dark drop shadow is rendered automatically behind each line to preserve legibility when text crosses light and dark sections of a photograph.
Can I upload custom OTF or TTF font files?
No. The tool uses six universal system fonts: Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Georgia, Verdana, and Impact. This ensures instant rendering without downloading external font packages.
