Unlock PDF removes document-level security from files you already have permission to access. It handles two distinct scenarios: removing the open password that blocks viewing, or stripping owner-set restrictions that prevent printing, editing, copying text, adding annotations, or filling form fields when a document opens freely. The tool re-saves the PDF without an encryption dictionary, leaving the downloaded copy fully unrestricted.
If your PDF requires a password to open, you must already know that password and enter it. The tool validates the password against the document and halts with an error if it is incorrect. It does not crack, recover, or brute-force unknown passwords. If your file opens without a password but restricts printing or text selection, leave the password field blank to remove those restrictions. For e-Aadhaar documents specifically, which follow a standard name and birth year format, use e-Aadhaar Password Remover instead.
How it works
1. Drop a PDF here
Upload a locked or restricted PDF up to 100 MB. Anything not recognized as a standard PDF is rejected immediately with “Please select a PDF file.”
2. Enter the password, or leave it blank
If the PDF requires a password to open, type it into the Password field. If the document opens freely but has copy or print restrictions, leave the field empty.
3. Press Unlock PDF
The tool executes a brief sequence in your browser tab: analyzing security, verifying credentials, decrypting content, removing restrictions, and finalizing the document.
4. Download the unlocked file
Once decryption finishes, click Download Unlocked PDF. The saved document preserves the original filename with -unlocked added before the .pdf extension.

Enabling text copying on restricted vendor documents
When a vendor distributes a contract or manual with viewing enabled but text copying blocked, leaving the password field blank strips the restriction for easy reference quoting.
Printing tickets and certificates with print restrictions
Certain digitally issued tickets and academic transcripts disable the print menu in standard viewers. Removing restrictions allows normal printing to physical paper or PDF print drivers.

Can this tool open a PDF without the password?
If a PDF requires a password to open, the tool attempts decryption using the exact string you provide. If the entered password is correct, the document decrypts and re-saves with all security dictionaries removed. If you enter the wrong password, the interface reports “Incorrect password. Please check and try again.” There is no client-side brute-force or dictionary recovery mechanism.
When dealing with a restriction-only document that opens for reading without any prompt, leaving the password field blank is intentional. The tool re-saves the document without the restriction, restoring full permissions.

Which restrictions are removed after unlocking?
A successful unlock operation clears both open credentials and the standard permission flags defined in the ISO 32000-1 specification. This restores printing at full resolution, content copying for accessibility and clipboard use, form field modifications, and page annotations.
Stripping encryption does not modify the underlying document artwork: fonts, vector paths, high-resolution imagery, and page counts remain identical before and after processing.
